Have a safe and happy holiday
During the weeks ahead, my family and I wish you the happiest — and safest — of holidays. I am so grateful for your support during my first term as your Dallas City Council member. It has been my pleasure to serve the residents of District 9. Read about the accomplishments we've made together.
Form-based code
In February, Dallas City Council will revisit form-based code, a type of zoning that would replace our current system with one that focuses more on the form, mass, and relationships of buildings, streets and green space. Several approaches to this new approach are being circulated at City Hall. Learn which one I support.
Concrete Dixon Branch?!
Concrete Dixon Branch?!
Some residents are alarmed that Dixon Branch might be concreted over to combat erosion and flooding. There is no plan, it's just one option staff is looking at. There is no money to do such a thing. And there is no way I'd support a concrete solution. There are better options worth fighting for, even if they are more expensive.
Garland Road Initiative
Master plan in the works for Garland Road
From where it begins, just west of White Rock Lake at Gaston and Grand, all the way east to LBJ, the Garland Road project will establish a long-needed master plan for the corridor. Currently, funds have been raised which will trigger a $120K urban design grant. Sign up at sheffiekadane.com to keep apprised.
PubliQeyes
What do you think?
You will receive real-time reports (with images or video) about crimes taking place in your neighborhood. You will also use your cell phone to report crimes-in-progress to the Dallas Police Department ... including sending images or video. Just such a crime prevention program will be tested in District 9. Tell Sheffie what you think.
Dallas Recycles
Speaking of District 9 polls...
Several weeks back, Sheffie Kadane asked District 9 residents if they felt like once-a-week garbage collection would be adequate if coupled with once-a-week recycling pick up. Your poll responses may surprise you. Regardless of how you voted, if you do not have a big blue recycling bin, you can order your recycling cart here.
