District 9 NEWS AND INFORMATION At long last...
On Monday, June 14, the long-awaited White Rock spillway re-opened after a $16.7 million upgrade.
In 2006, heavy rains and flooding damaged the spillway’s retaining walls. In 2008, the City elected to do more than just re-build, it decided to enhance the area's asthetics and well as make improvements that allow better viewing, parking and management of cyclists and those on foot.
What isn't easily seen is all the infrastructure work that was needed to complete the four-year project.
Buckle up!
No matter how old you are or where in the vehicle you are sitting, you must buckle up.
State law now requires everyone in a vehicle to be secured by a safety belt. Children younger than 8 years old must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet, 9 inches tall.
Officers have started ticketing parents who do not secure their children in child safety seats or booster seats as required by law. Fines for noncompliance range from $25 to $250, plus
court costs.
